Steve Wastell, our volunteer GM, and brand new volunteer Harrison are making their way back from the San Pedro Shelter where Capt. Pam Hana has been doing whatever she can to save this little wolfdog from certain death. 

Just last month, we rescued two wolfdogs from death row and have had three at the vet for care and are not in any place with our finances to rescue another. But when Steve arrived at the shelter just a couple of hours ago and saw the state "Kyra" was in, he called Teo Alfero, our director, and said, "We can't leave this wolfdog here to die. We have to do whatever we can to rescue her and give her the life she deserves." Teo agreed full-heartedly, so Steve gently lifted her into the Wolf Connection truck.

Kyra was taken by Animal Control from a man who believed that she and her brother were brought to him by aliens and that they were going to give him a reward if they returned and saw her bones. Kyra's brother, just recently, dug a hole under the house, crawled in, and died there. Animal Control said when they went to confiscate the wolfdogs, there was a stench coming from under the house and the hole was filled with flies. Kyra was in shock, is emaciated so that you can see her rib cage and both of her ears are bloody and half-eaten by flies. She also has a large hematoma on one of them that can be very dangerous if not treated immediately.

Steve is on his way directly to the Saugus Vet Clinic where one of our volunteer pack managers Renee Alfero is working and will make sure she is examined thoroughly and treated. Kyra will then be taken to the sanctuary and we will get her settled in for her emotional and physical recovery.

WE CAN'T DO THIS WITHOUT YOUR HELP. We are struggling right now to make ends meet but we don't want that to be the reason to not do what we're here to do which is make sure that these animals are safe, cared for, and ultimately loved. Please help us make sure that Kyra is one of those animals.
