Wolf Connection

Lack of Interest in Wolf Issues and Wolf Ecology????

I'm curious........
Seems like there is very little interest here in what's happening in the "real" wolf world which includes wolf ecology, trophic cascade effects, Wildlife Services etc. ie...NRM wolves, Oregon, Washington and the Mexican Wolves. No mention of how the livestock industry and hunting groups manipulate the wolf populations and wildlife management in general. Also, all the political rhetoric relative to changing the E.S.A. doesn't seem to elicit any discussion which is a bit shocking regardless of where one stands on wolf reintroduction.
Am I missing the mission of your non-profit group? I understand that it's to "educate" about wolves, but don't understand the silence when it comes to what's happening in the day to day lives of these magnificent animals in the wild and their battle to survive.
Please enlighten me as to your mission and goals.
Thanks
Jerry Black

Dear Jerry,
After looking at your various posts I don't think you need enlightenment of any kind. Thank you so much for educating the Wolf Connection community. If fact I've been praying for people like you to join and start bringing these issues up.

I started WolfConnection.org with the purpose of creating a virtual space for not only wolf lovers, but animal and nature lovers as well, to connect, express themselves, support each other, and learn from each other ... The site has the support of wolf experts such as Don Gossett, Monty Sloan, and Tonya Little Wolf, but if you look at the members you'll find that most of them are just regular people that has had an experience with a wolf, either at the zoo or at our facility and got very intrigued by it ... these people are the general public out there: they feel a connection with these magnificent animals and at the same time they are ignorant about them and don't make it a priority to learn about them or stay on top of the breaking news.

In addition, as a social website, WolfConnection.org is made by it's members ... we filter only the posts that are spam related ... so it will have as much or as little information as the members decide to conttribute.

In terms of information about wolves, there are a number of very serious online resources out there, many of them listed in our Information Center group ... but I wanted this site to be different where the general public has a say and can share not only their opinion about wolves, but also their daily experiences with their animals and nature in general.

So, putting these elements together, I believe you and I have a great opportunity here to educate people that don't unsually go visit these wolf resources but would be interested to know more and support the cause if someone delivers the info to them ... they could truly make a difference in terms of public opinion.

In the past we've had people joining the site and leaving after they find a less than hard core wolf community. I believe that, if we truly want to protect our wolf sisters and brothers we MUST reach out to the general public and grow communities like this one ... I truly believe that, when you find something that needs improvement, its about staying and making a difference instead of walking away with judgments.

I can see by your contributions to the site in the short time you've been a members that you are one of those that stay and work so I want to say again how grateful I am that you are a member of Wolf Connection and I hope you continue educating our community in relevant wolf issues.

What I can offer on my end is to broadcast to the entire community some of your postings so they become aware of them and read them. I believe that if we stay on it long enough we will be building the interest and consensus we are after. The fact that you are in the middle of Wolf Country makes all the more interesting to people I think.

I hope I was able to convey our purpose and intentions here. Please feel free to contact me with your questions and ideas on how to improve this site.

Wolf blessings to you

Thank you Glenn for your insight and big heart ... I can sense your passion for the wolves just as I do from Jerry's postings ...
With the sniper training I received in the army, I have considered your "hunting option" myself :) ... but I've chosen a more elevated and constructive way to be in the front lines using the internet and school presentations instead.

It was great meeting you Sunday ... and I foresee a long lasting friendship in the making
Wolf Blessing to you as well
Teo
Thanks Teo and Glen for the reply and I want you to know that what you're doing is extremely important. Education, education, education....kids, especially need this to counter the cultural hate associated with wolves. Keep up the good work and I'll try to keep the info flowing from here.
I have an extra copy of Lords of Nature : http://www.lordsofnature.org/. I'd be happy to send it to you and you may want to have a showing as we did here in Missoula. It's a great 1 hour DVD that shows the importance of large carnivores in ecosystems. Check out their site for a short trailer. I'll send it soon as I get an address from you.
Don't hesitate to let me know if I'm bombarding you with too much.....it's easy to get carried away when wolves are being killed all around you.
Soooo let me know if you want the DVD and I'll get it right out.
